What is the best way to get to New York city from JFK Airport? I’ll be visiting New York in a few weeks and I was looking at the best way to get to New York city after I arrive at JFK airport.
Public transportation is the cheapest but not the fastest. If you have the time this would be your best option.
Take the AirTrain from JFK to Jamaica terminal. There you will have to buy your MetroCard that starts at $2.75 for a single ride. If you are planning on taking more rides fill up your MetroCard with more money or consider getting unlimited rides card, 7 or 30 day MetroCard. You can find more information at the MTA website.
From Jamaica terminal you can take several options like Babylon train, Ronkonkoma train or E subway to Penn Station. Most rides take 52 minutes but can take as long as an hour and a half. Use Google maps to find out your best option.

In my case I don’t want to take to long time since it will be late at night and I’m going all the way to New Jersey. I’m considering two options, AirTrain and Subway to Penn Station and then Uber to New Jersey or option two Uber all the way to New Jersey.
Option 1 would cost me about $2.75 for the subway from Jamaica terminal to Penn Station and around $30 for the Uber from Penn Station to my hotel. Since I have some free rides thanks to readers like you my Uber ride would almost be free.
Option 2 would cost me about $65 from JFK to Penn Station. About $95 all the way to my hotel in New Jersey.
Another option you have if you are going to Manhattan is to take advantage of Uber’s flat fee rides. From JFK to Manhattan UberX charges a flat fee of $60. I would take advantage of this rate but since I’m getting in so late I’m hopping traffic wont affect my price. This is a good rate for when their is heavy traffic.
If you haven’t used Uber make sure to sign up and use my promo code uberluvfree to get a $30 credit for your first ride.
If you already use Uber then make sure to invite a friend or two before heading to New York and take advantage of the $30 credit you get once they take a ride.
